Pheobe's a bum

Bought Pheobe a new leash today in the hope that we'll go for evening walks together... after all both of us are seriously in need of exercise... the vet said that Pheobs is like 5kg overweight! That's a lot for a small doggie like her.

pheobe wearing leash for 1st time
That's Pheobs very unhappy with her leash...

So she threw a tantrum!

MVI_1880_0005
"Stupid leash!"

MVI_1880_0002
"F**king leash!"

MVI_1880_0004
"That's a workout..."

But she's not getting off that easily...

me forcing pheobe to go for a walk
I had to personally carry her out to the porch, and out the front gate...

And that's where she remained... refused to budge an inch... even put up a struggle...

pheobe refuses to go for a walk
"It's hot! It's hot!"

pheobe refuses to go for a walk
"Come on, I'm burning!"

pheobe refuses to go for a walk
"If that's how you want to play it... take this!"

pheobe refuses to go for a walk
"See how yucky the ground outside the gate is!"

pheobe refuses to go for a walk
"Please, please...."

pheobe refuses to go for a walk
"Exercise is just not not my thing..."

pheobe refuses to go for a walk
"You know the term exercise-resistant?"

pheobe refuses to go for a walk
"How'd you like it if someone make you bungee jump?"

I give up. Did my skipping and boxing instead. *Mum and dad laughing in the background* :(

I'm just worried that Pheobs might get a coronary.

Tomorrow is another day. :) Not wasting my money just like that for the leash.

16 Blocks, Japan vs. Australia

It's 1.30am. Just finished watching 16 Blocks. Nice... Story was kind of straight forward except for the last bit. Watch it people. 4 out of 5 stars. :) I would categorize it as "easy-viewing".

Before that I was watching the Australia versus Japan match. Felt more sorry for Japan than happy for the aussies. Initially I was rooting for Australia, and was hoping they get at least an equalizer, but once Cahill executed his 2nd, I was feeling very sorry for Japan, and really, really sorry when Australia sealed their last minute runaway with their 3rd.

I thought Australia's coach was going to get a coronary just now...

I always have a thing for underdogs...

After the match, I'm feeling some epigastric pain, so drank some milk... feeling better now. Need a good zzzZZZzzz...

After NUMB3RS going straight to bed.

Sweet dreams!

Have a great week ahead!

IMG_1820, originally uploaded by sharonhappymorgue.

I know I'll be having a great week ahead. Planning a couple of stuff to do for myself.

Mum's given me her Nokia 6681 which is so cool... she's gotten a the new Nokia N71... nicey... hopefully I'll inherit that too couple months from now... :) Mum's a Nokia handphone freak. She spends all her money on getting the latest and the most "canggih". I was quite turn off by the size of the 6681, but love the functions, like a lot!

The good thing from this all is that we (my dad, sis and I) get to have her not-so-out-of-date Nokias when she buys herself a new one... frequency min 2-3/year.

It's kinda silly and maybe a little over-indulging but my philosophy is that we should spend what we earn... we may just drop dead tommorow. Muahahah.... I can totally relate to her obsession which Nokia... :) I know what it feels like to really want something soooo bad.

Wanted to get myself hair iron over the weekend, but after surveying around the city, I found them to be too pricey and a bit too gimicky.... I'm sure my hair won't look like model's on the box (which is what I want) so I decided not to get the iron in the end.... they were like between RM140 and RM200+. Maybe next time when I'm working...

Yes, I thought of going for chemical straightening in the saloon, but the thing is sometimes I like my waves.... so not keen of a permanent straight look.

Hey posting to my blog from Flickr is fun! You guys should try it.... flickr.com

Cheers people!

What a thriller!

federer versus nadal, originally uploaded by sharonhappymorgue.

Nadal defends french title!

nadal, originally uploaded by sharonhappymorgue.

After battling for more than 3hours, Nadal make won his 60th consecutive clay court matche and went on to become the youngest ever player to defend the title!

Though he was dumbfounded after a 1-6 opener thrashing by the world No.1 Federer, he steam rolled the greast champion in the subsequent sets before claiming the crown in 4 sets.

I guess Federer just needs another year to have a chance to complete the grand slams.

Some updates

girls' night out

(L to R) Jane, Wendy, Sue-Anne, June & ME!

Met the gals last night at Bings. Jo couldn't join us. Lang eh bo liaw... bei sai tan cia chut. Hehe. That's my broken hokkien. Would love to share the infrared joke which was hilarious but unfortunately it's racist... so not suitable for public display.

Was quite intrigued with horror stories from my friends of their teaching stints. I'm actually quite interested to get a part-time job for the hols... and thought of teaching because it seems kind of easy, but after all the stories... I'd rather not. Then thought of doing some reporting with Eastern Times, but my dad didn't think very highly of one of the big shots there, so said mien la...

"Just relax..."

That I can do, but I thought I want some extra $$$ (should be RM RM RM) and something to keep me busy so that I can have less opportunities to EAT.

I eat and eat and eat and eat like nobody's business.

"I've put on 4kg since I got back" -Raj-

I checked the scales yesterday. Still maintain... but I can feel like I'm getting flabbier and "softer".

I was kind of disappointed today because I was waiting the whole week for futsal. I arrived at the civic centre carpark 5 mins early, but no one was there, so I thought maybe it's Malaysian timing, so I waited and waited and finally I called the organizer...

"You didn't get my sms?" she was very disturbed...

"Err... no" I sulked...

The coach called it off last minute because something came up.... and probably I can't go tomorrow.... because of church. Yeah church again.

My enthusiasm died a little. Nevermind. My next project is to organize a kayak outing, after my SPA interview. That one I'm not very concerned because I don't need to find too many people for a group. Min 3, but if really can't form a group, I can just join any other groups that are going out.

This one must materialize...

Rejected again.

The blood bank rejected me this time because in the 4-page questionnaire I answered "Yes" in whether I have had any tatoo/ear-peircing/something I don't remember what done in less than a year. And Geryl got rejected because he finished a course of antibiotics about a week ago (they say must be at least 2 weeks).

I felt kinda silly because 1) I looked like an idiotic medical student, and 2) It was my first first time donating blood directly to the blood bank (the previous 3 times I did it during a blood donation drive in campus, where they only screen you for hemoglobin level and take your contact no. to trace you later if anything comes up from further screening like hepatitis) so I was not aware of all the retrictions. :(

So the MA said just now, "See you in October!" before I left because I told him I had my tatoo done in October 2005. :(

But the strange thing is that the "screening" process done just now was kinda strange... why? Let me cerita.

They gave us a list of criteria to fulfilll before proceeding to fill a 4-page form, which were mostly repetition of the initial list, and some extra. Then the counter directed us to the next screen station which consisted of measuring my BP and pricking my finger to test for hemoglobin. He collected 2 drops of my blood unto the strip which immediately got seeped into the whole strip and slide it into the Hb machine. Then he looked through my form and suddenly exclaimed, "Yes?!"

Then he pointed at the ...tatoo/ear-piercing/something I don't remember what... and asked me which is it I had done... so I said "tatoo"... "When?" he asked, wide-eyed. "Ermm.. October 2005, during the raya holidays!" I answered cheefully. Then he shooked his head in dismay and apologized that I have to be rejected.

Then the hemoglobin machine flashed 15.2...

Damn I was so disappointed, even tried to bargain by saying that the tattoo artist was my cuz and I was sure that he used a disposable needle. Stupid medical student. :)

I was just so desperate to donate blood.

My point is they could have save their 4-page form, lancet and a strip for the hemoglobin, and 15mins of our time if they had put everything in the initial list. For me I was quite happy to get my Hb level checked... 15g/dL... wow that's good, but really la the system is not very cost and time effective.

So, now I'm "barred" from donating blood until October... *sob*

But at least today I've found something to look forward to this holiday! Will start this Saturday. I won't tell more about it until it materializes, but I can' wait! :) Just let say it's something strenous, sweaty and even painful, but exhilarating! Muahahahah!

Cheers people!

Bruno

Uncle Tine got a new puppy couple of weeks ago. Bruno is his given name. He's simply adorable despite my initial reservation because of his not-so-puppy size. My dad's crazy about him, as far as I know... we've been making trips to my uncle's place in Airport Road several times a week just to play with him.

Our first encounter with him was quite scary, he was growling, NOT barking, but growling at us, showing his not-so-puppy teeth when we went to see him for the very first time. Then he warmed up to my dad first in our second encounter, and today, in MY 4th encounter with him (my parents visited more times than I did) he finally accepted me and licked my hands and face! Yipee! :)

My uncle is one weird character I would say. Never in a million years had I ever imagine him to adopt a pet.... he has a sub-OCD on cleanliness... his idea of petting a cat or a dog is gently (but briskly) stroking the tip of the animal's ear with the tippest of his index finger, and after that he would vigorously wash his hands.

And he has an aversion towards a dog licking people's face. When he announced to my family during a family dinner about a year ago about his intetntion of adopting a dog, my parents and I went all our way to try to change his mind. He said he wanted a "durable" (his exact word ok...) dog...

We were also afraid that he might not know how to care for the dog enough, and worse, he might not spend enough time (especially play time) with the dog. We are not worried about his food/shelther/bath, only that he might die of loneliness. So that's why when he suddenly call us (my uncle's a bachelor) one day and announced that he bought a German shepard, we almost died of shock... so that's why my dad started going over to his place to check on Bruno.

Luckily so far he's doing well, except we thought he's a bit too thin. My uncle said that the breeder who sold Bruno to my uncle claimed and advised him to not "overfeed" (only one cupful of dog biscuits a day) and not to give the poor pup any milk until he is 1 year old! We noticed that his hind legs are kinda bowing, so my parents bought milk the other day, but my uncle insisted that the breeder told him specifically not to give any milk until 1 year.

What sort of stupid breeder is that? COMMON SENSE. Puppies drink their mother's milk don't they? STUPID. Now we're trying to "psychoeducate" my uncle. But my dad said we shouldn't interfere...

Bruno with mum...
.

Bruno only started warming up to me today... but you can see he's still a teeny-weeny bit unsure of me... see his tail and ears...
.

But he liked my watch.....

. He really, really liked my watch....
.

.

Check this little video I made of Bruno with my dad and uncle...

.

No lar.. I didn't get this bruise from Bruno...Muahahahah!... got it last week why doing something during the Youth ER... that's how a 1-week-old bruise looks like... Muahahah! It's an interesting brusie because of the striation, produced because the impact was over a layer of clothing... hey I just realized that the site is not obvious in this picture... hehe... wanna guess?

.

Ok shit look at the time. 12.47am. Need to sleep. Going to donate blood tomorrow. Have to tell alittle lie to the nurse in the blood bank. The last time I said that I slept at 1am, she immediately rejected me... so I'm going to say maybe 11pm or soemthing. I mean it would be ok because I'm on holiday, not doing anything strenous after. :)

Good night you all!

Sua ngiaw

I've turned into a sua ngiaw (jungle cat in hokkien). I sleep 2 or 3 am everyday now, and I wake up 11am! So it's now 1.58am, and I'm still freaking wakeful.

I saw 2 miniseries on Hallmark today (yesterday, technically)... True Women and Mama Flora's family, and I loved both... love this sort of genre... It makes me laugh and cry my heart out. :)

Then today, despite my utter distaste towards AF, I sat through the 2-hour concert. It was quite boring because the theme was P. Ramlee and Saloma, but because I've already watched everything else that was showing on the other channels, I didn't die. But I saw One in a Million yesterday, and thought that the standard was far better then AF, which by the way is starting to be like Scenario which is major LAMENESS.

Then I went online to check out about LASIK eye surgery because a friend of mind just had it done a couple of days ago. To me, anything to do with eyes and ears, I'm very particular because I reckon those 2 organs are too precious for any risk of damaging them, no matter how insignificant. But I was intrigued by the idea of LASIK. Only because I dream of wearing coloured lenses again. As it is now, I can't get any coloured toric lenses, no even in KL.

So you've read right, I'm dreaming of doing LASIK just so I can wear coloured contact lenses. Yes, I'm very vain. And oh, I like that my eyes seem to look bigger when I'm wearing cotact lenses, so I imagine that with the correction by LASIK, my eyes would look bigger, permanently. :)

Oh ya, my cooking flair's back. :) Yesterday, I made some fantastic chicken curry! And today I did this special dish with eggplant. My family loved them. I actually stopped cooking when my mum retired almost 2 years back. I surrendered all the cooking responsibilities to her since I had been doing all the cooking since I knew how back in school which I thought was great move because I never knew that my mum was such a great cook. She did most of the cooking for her family when she was in school.

Tomorrow (technically later today) I'm planning to do laundry, and do extra abdominal crunches and extra skipping (because I've have this delusion that it would make me tonner jjsut to fit my dress for Jo's wedding reception).

I was over at my tailor's (who's name is coincidentally Connie too) yesterday for fitting. I guess the dress didn't look as nice (or as flattering) as I had hoped for but I guess it boils down to plain confidence to carry it off. It's done anyway. But I loved my suit and its matching skirt. The blazer had a "modern" look (to me la). :) But I think I won't wear it to the interview after all. I think I might be overdressed. :)

It's 2.35am. Enough for my chatter. :) Cheers!

Church of man

For those who have been in Kuching for the couple of days leading to Gawai, you would know that it's been insanely hot. Todays' no different. So when my parents asked me to join them for daily mass, I was reluctant but eventually agreed, despite the uncomfortable heat.

So this was what I wore to mass just now. Still felt warm because the fan inside the church was just recycling the warm air. Then after mass, a nun (with her full habit) tapped my left shoulder and started (nicely) lecturing me about my innapropriate top.

"Please respect God. Some priests won't give you communion (the bread) if you wear that."

I was like, "Oh, ok..." But in my mind I was thinking screw her. It's fucking hot so it's only common sense that we dress comfortably. Seriously, I don't think what I was wearing was innapropriate/sexy/vulgar or whatever she was offended by.

I thought she should be saying, "God bless you my child... it's so good of you to come for daily mass..." There were only about 20 people in the whole church for the mass just now.

But later my aunt told me that the nun was a bit off. That's why everyone was avoidng her (which I didn't notice). She once barbequed a cat for a priest she was cooking for.

Anyways... whether that's true or not, which didn't matter, she still told me off in public just now, and she must have gotten the idea from somewhere in the church, I'm just so turned off sometimes by the do's and don't's (man-made mind you) of the church.

Which reminds me of how disturbed I was when a priest was telling a group of us (working youths) about the theory of relativism in particular about how wrong it is to think that "it doesn't mater what religion you have as long as you do good".

I was sooo disturbed during that session that I actually jotted down a lot of questions on piece of paper to ask the priest , but he had to leave immediately after the session to rush for another appointment. But I haven't forgotten. I'm still keeping the paper.

What the hell is wrong with accepting that sometimes it doesn't matter what religion you practice as long as you respect each other and do right by the people who your are sharing your breathing space with?

Whatever. God blessed and graced us with common sense, so we must use it right.

McDonald's generation

McD kids (you and me la), know how much calories are in your typical McD indulgent:
.
My typical meal includes a double cheeseburger, large french fries and strawberry/chocolate sundae! :) The total calories, just let's say it's a lot. :) *shy*
.
.
.
.
I seriously don't remember how my chronic affair with McD started, but I know it's the juicy and seriously yummy double cheeseburger that's keeping the flame burning between us.
.
So after seeing the crowd at McD 3rd Mile (and also now I'm seriously dying of boredom) I decided to "educate" myself about McDonald's.
.
Because I know with the Internet, you can dig out dirt from virtually anything.
.
It's interesting you know, but I'm still in the process of reading up more to see how true some of the claims are...
.
.

And just type "anti-macdonald's" in Googles on Yahoo search for the rep sheet...
.

Meanwhile, I'll be having my doublecheese burger....

.

.

.

My take is that if you're not making changes in your own life, not making any conscientious effort to save the environment (recycling for eg.), who the hell are you to accuse others of clearing the rainforest in the amazon for cattle rearing for beef, stuff like that.

I'm speaking from experience as a silly idealistic teenager and later medical student. As part of our public health studies, we were exposed to recycling, water treatment, sanitation, etc.

We were challenged to make an effort to practise recycling. Having separate bins for glass, paper, plastic, alluminium, etc. That lasted only a couple of days. It's so hypocritical of us to condemn other people.

A little goes a long way, and if each and everyone of us have a little of that, we don't need protests, lawsuits and boycotts.

But the world does not seem to operate that way. It appears that we are in the path of self-destruction.

And meanwhile I'll be enjoying my double cheeseburger. :)

Happy Gawai!

Sorry about the picture... best I could do. Wanted something authentic to reflect what the festival's about, but I think I failed miserably... the other pictures were of warriors dancing and beauty pagent contestants... anyways... it's the thought that counts.

Happy Gawai to all my dayak friends! And to our Sabahan counterparts, Happy Kaamatan!

I just got back from a drink with the 3 A's (Angie, Adeline and Alison) and Alison's sis, Marianne. We initially wanted to avoid the jam from the bak chang festival procession in town so we met at MacDonald's at 3rd mile, but I was sooo disturbed by the crowd and the number of shrieking children playing at the plastic playground inside... so I quickly suggested Sidewalk at Airport Road.

I had the something, something triple ice-cream which was supposed to come with an assortment of nuts and yummy toppings, but it came out melted (and yucky) with 2 hollow "secret letters" (you know the tubular biscuit sometimes with chocolate filling, but those I had just now were hollow, no filling, only stripes of chocolate colouring, and no chocolate taste) and ONE piece of a thin-sliced caramelized orange about the size of a 50sen coin. The orange slice was nice though.

Darn forgot to take a picture of the ice-cream. I've lost touch with writing, so forgive me if you can't imagine whatever I'm trying to describe.

The damn ice-cream not cheap. RM9.80. Could have had 3 of McD's chocolate or starwberry sundaes. :(

But I enjoyed the company. As usual we were remisniscing... recurrent theme, Joyce Ho. She's getting married end of this year, and I know each and everyone of us on the table just now secretly thought that we would only believe it when we see her walk down the aisle with our own eyes still intact in the sockets...

She's really a character like no other. Outrages, volatile, annoying..... but a dear friend. :) Joyce Ho.

Then we talked about traveling, organic food, genetic engineering, cancer, former teachers, driving, relationships, money... yeah that's it. :)

Talking about marriage, Jo's wedding is in 6 days time! She must be going crazy with all the preparations, with all last minute stuff to settle and all. For me, I have only to check with my tailor for the dress I asked her to make for Jo's wedding reception. Note wedding reception. I still don't know what I'm wearing for her wedding ceremony/mass... I have a couple of new skirts which are appropriate and a few sleeveless tops, but my mum was saying that it's innapropriate to wear sleeveless to church! Yikes.

Even though I don't really care about the sleeveless issue, but my mum has this effect on me. Once she disapproves of something, I would look at that thing differently. Only my mum is that powerful.

I felt kind of drowsy the whole day today. I attribute it to ZERO caffeine intake today. I decided to do a little caffeine-detoxification during this holiday. Hopefully by the time I start work, I wouldn't need as much caffeine as I did during study and that my caffeine sensitivity would improve.

I was told that the huge mall in KK is open. Yipee! Now I truly have something to look forward to. :)

Enjoy the festivity people! Cheers!
